Jeff Scott Soto has spoken out following reports of Carrot Top’s hospitalization, sharing a heartfelt message of support in a post on Instagram.
The message came after TMZ reported that the comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was hospitalized for attempted suicide. Soto, who says he has known Carrot Top personally for years, used the platform to express his sadness and offer encouragement.
“TMZ reported Carrot Top is hospitalized for attempted suicide, this saddens me to no end, I consider ‘Scott’ a longtime pal!” Soto said. “We used to hang all the time when I was in Vegas weekly with Boogie Knights.”
He went on to encourage Carrot Top to prioritize his recovery before returning to work, drawing on his own experience with mental health struggles.
“I wish him to get the help and take the time he needs to address things before diving back into work, this is a reminder I sadly know all too well about mental health,” Soto continued.
Soto closed his statement with a broader message urging others to stay attentive to loved ones who may be struggling.
“Please everyone, be aware and if anyone reaches out for help or show signs of possibly needing it, be there for them, do what you can to distract depression and other factors that can be as plain as day!” he said. “Get well soon Scott!!”
The incident that prompted Soto’s message unfolded quickly. It disrupted the comedian’s busy performance schedule in Las Vegas, where he has remained a fixture for decades.
Carrot Top, 61, was rushed to a local hospital on Friday after the reported suicide attempt. He had been scheduled to take the stage at the Luxor Hotel and Casino just hours later, and that performance was subsequently canceled in the wake of the emergency.
His representative, Jami Schlicher, addressed the situation without confirming the specific cause of the hospitalization. “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” Schlicher said in a statement.
Carrot Top has built his career as one of Las Vegas’s most recognizable performers, known for his prop-comedy act and decades-long residency on the Strip.
