Metallica frontman James Hetfield had an intimate conversation with a festival’s attendees, shared by a Metallica fan on their Instagram account. Hetfield opened up about his feelings, saying that he went through the same challenges by giving some important advice to the fans.

2022’s Boston Calling Music Festival took place on May 27, 28, and 29 at the Harvard Athletic Complex, and it drew significant attention thanks to its star-studded lineup. Nine Inch Nails, Avril Lavigne, Black Pumas, Weezer, and Metallica performed extraordinary live shows with many more bands and artists. However, Metallica’s concert became more special after the singer connected with the fans one more time.

In the band’s performance as a part of the event, Metallica played one of their classics, ‘Fade to Black,’ released on their second studio album, ‘Ride the Lightning.’ Also, the song is mainly based on darker themes such as agony, pain, loss, and death, and therefore the critics and fans defined it as a track that thoughts of a person who has suicidal tendencies. At the beginning of the performance, Hetfield asked a question to the audience about this issue.

Hetfield wanted to know whether they felt the struggle like him which probably inspired him while writing ‘Fade to Black.’ The audience answered, ‘Yes.’ The Metallica singer highlighted that they weren’t alone and would never be, making them happy and grateful. So the ones suffering from these thoughts should talk to their friends, family, and the band without any doubt, then Metallica began performing the famous song.

Here’s what Hetfield said via a fan account:

“Hey Boston, Do you feel the struggle? I feel the struggle every day. If you identify with that, you are not alone. Talk to your friends, family, and whoever. Talk to me right now.”
