It’s Almost Impossible To Do Anything New In Metal, Jack Taylor Says

2 Min Read

Bangover frontman Jack Taylor discussed the current state of metal music in a recent interview with Let’s Get Heavy Podcast.

‘Look, the thrash genre — as much as we love it — it’s heavily saturated, isn’t it?’ Taylor said. ‘Pretty much every genre plateaued as well.’

‘I mean, what really new can you do in the world?’ he continued. ‘I’m not pretending we’ve gone off on some genre-redefining moment, because we haven’t. But we’ve just tried to have a little bit of fun. There’s black metal riffs, there’s even a reggae riff… all kinds of stuff. We’re just pushing into weird directions and seeing what happens.’

Bangover is exploring a more diverse musical approach on their upcoming thrash album. The band incorporates elements from various genres instead of adhering to traditional metal boundaries.

Taylor’s observations highlight a broader trend in the metal music landscape. Bands increasingly look beyond traditional genre constraints to maintain creativity and relevance.

Research from The Rockpit revealed that genre experimentation has become more prevalent in recent years. Metal bands now frequently incorporate diverse musical elements to overcome creative plateaus.

Innovation challenges within established metal genres have sparked notable adaptations. Studies featured on recent music industry analyses show bands like In Hearts Wake embracing experimental approaches. These groups now incorporate unconventional themes and musical elements into their work.

Data from music platform statistics indicates a significant shift in metal music production. More metal bands now integrate elements from electronic music and world music influences. This approach helps them expand creative boundaries.

This evolution reflects similar patterns in other music genres. Artists have historically responded to creative saturation by breaking down genre barriers. They embrace hybrid approaches to songwriting and composition.
