In a recent post on X, Grimes came to Britney Spears’ defense over the controversial ‘Knife Dance’ in a video the singer shared on Instagram.

A user posted a video of Spears showing her dance and wrote:

“Maybe freeing Britney wasn’t a good idea.”

Reposting this and showing her support for Britney, Grimes said:

“This is unironically good art tho.”

After seeing the video, the fans immediately took to social media to voice their worry. One comment on X noted:

“She says they are not real, but they look and sound real to me. This is concerning.”

Another one wrote, again expressing concern:

“Wild behavior! You can literally hear the metal clinking.”

To ease fans’ anxieties, Britney clarified in an Instagram post that knives were fake and her actions were merely an imitation of Shakira. She wrote:

“Lighten up about the knives. I’m copying Shakira.”

At the beginning of this month, Shakira was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award and delivered a performance of her biggest hits during the VMAs. Her performance featured a dance interlude in which she wielded dagger-like knives while showing her hips.

In another video of her dance moves, posted on Instagram this Tuesday, Spears was seen with a white bandage wrapped around her arm. She also displayed an apparent cut on her thigh that happened during her knife dance while dancing in a polka-dot crop top and white bikini bottoms.
