Greta Van Fleet’s Sam Kiszka On Missing The Opportunity To Play With Dave Grohl

Greta Van Fleet bassist and keyboardist Sam Kiszka recalled some of their gigs with Foo Fighters and the fantastic memories during his latest interview with NPO 3 FM. The musician expressed feelings about the band’s frontman Dave Grohl and late drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Last year, Greta Van Fleet joined Foo Fighters to perform concerts together to promote their second studio album entitled ‘The Battle at Garden’s Gate,’ released on April 16, 2021. The tour started on September 3, 2021, at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, and the bands’ members had a great time getting to know each other while they were on the road for their unforgettable live shows.

In one of them, the two bands played in Canada, which was a priceless experience for the Greta Van Fleet members as a part of the newly-formed band and young musicians in the rock scene. It was another proof that Foo Fighters icons significantly influenced the next generation of rock artists who wanted to be as popular and successful as them. They also planned to be on the stage the following year without knowing a tragedy that would occur later.

Therefore, the host reminded Kiszka that they couldn’t continue their collaboration after Hawkins passed away on March 25, 2022, because of a possible heart condition. The surviving members canceled their concerts to mourn and heal. The bassist responded to him, saying that their time with Grohl and Hawkins meant a lot, and their endless energy, passion, and positivity helped them during the tiring tour schedule by highlighting the drummer’s great mood.

Here’s what the host said:

You almost got to play with Foo Fighters, but that didn’t happen because Taylor Hawkins passed away sadly. Can you tell something about what he and Foo Fighters meant to you or as a band?”

Kiszka said in his interview that:

“For example, we were on the road for months and starting to get burnt out. We had some dates with them in Canada. Here comes this new energy; Taylor and Dave with their unforgiving positivity. Every time you would see Taylor, he would put you in a great mood, and he would have hilarious fun things to talk about, and it was fantastic and great energy.”
