10cc’s Graham Gouldman revealed to Prog that even though he doesn’t think their sound fits perfectly into glam rock or prog rock, he still gets annoyed as a 70s band when they aren’t mentioned in any documentaries. He explained:

“Whenever they make documentaries about the 70s, people talk about glam rock and prog rock. I don’t tend to put 10cc in either category, but it still pisses us all off that we don’t get a mention.”

Even though the band had several hits under their belt, including ‘I’m Not In Love,’ Gouldman knew that not having a frontman with a big personality like Ferry or Mercury didn’t help their popularity, saying:

“I know we didn’t have a frontman as such; Roxy had Bryan Ferry, and Queen had Freddie Mercury and so on, and I know it didn’t help that we couldn’t project ourselves. We just didn’t have outgoing personalities.”

He added that even though the industry looked up to them for pioneering studio techniques, they also had an emotional side to their songs that most people overlooked; he added:

“We were always known as the professors of pop, which I didn’t mind to some extent. But people often thought that we were more interested in the science of music rather than the emotional side. But I don’t think you can get any more emotional than ‘I’m Not In Love.'”

Even after all these years, 10cc is still around today as Graham continues to tour with his own line-up of the band. You can learn more information about ‘The Ultimate Greatest Hits Tour 2023’ here.
