Ex-Fear Factory bassist Christian Olde Wolbers has been announced to fill in for Overkill bassist D.D. Verni on the New Jersey thrash metal veterans’ upcoming U.S. tour. The announcement was made in a post shared on Instagram.
Olde Wolbers will be stepping in as Overkill serves as the support act for Testament on their upcoming tour. The bassist expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming performances.
“See you guys and gals out there on the ‘Thrash Of The Titans’ Tour!” Olde Wolbers said.
This marks another collaboration between Olde Wolbers and Overkill, as he has previously filled in for D.D. Verni on tour dates.
The upcoming “Thrash Of The Titans” tour represents a significant collaboration between metal legends. It brings together multiple generations of thrash metal excellence.
Blabbermouth reported that the tour launches March 14 in Portland, OR. The trek also features German thrash metal veterans Destruction alongside Testament and Overkill. The tour spans 14 dates through April 10 in Berkeley, CA, offering fans a comprehensive thrash metal experience across multiple cities.
Verni’s absence from the tour is due to an ongoing shoulder issue that has required him to step back from touring duties. BraveWords noted that this isn’t the first time Overkill has needed to find a replacement bassist for Verni during recent tours.
The band has previously utilized other notable bassists as temporary replacements. Blabbermouth revealed that ex-Kreator bassist Christian “Speesy” Giesler filled in for 2024 European shows. Ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson handled bass duties for Overkill’s April 2024 Latin American tour.
Olde Wolbers’ relationship with Overkill extends beyond this upcoming tour, as he previously filled in for D.D. Verni during the band’s fall 2024 support slot for King Diamond. This established working relationship likely made him a natural choice for the “Thrash Of The Titans” tour. It ensures continuity and familiarity within the band’s live performance dynamic.
