Ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini recently addressed his ongoing social media security issues in a statement shared on Instagram. After multiple failed attempts to recover his compromised Facebook account, Mangini made the difficult decision to delete the page entirely.
The drummer explained the frustration behind the hackers’ persistent access to his account. The attackers were motivated by financial gain. They repeatedly posted content to monetize his stories.
“We deleted my Facebook page. Unreal. The same team of hackers kept getting in. Their motivation was making money off of my stories, which is why they posted so many of them (what I referred to as ‘saints’). They can take my Facebook page but they cannot take my humor,” Mangini said.
Mangini acknowledged the possibility that hackers could attempt to resurrect the page in the future. He also mentioned being advised to remove a video he had posted in response to the breach.
“I was advised to remove the video I put up after this. It’s possible that hackers resurrect the page to start the nonsense all over again. There is a move that can stop all this but I have to wait. The same team of hackers kept getting access,” he continued.
The incident represents a significant security challenge for the veteran musician. In 2025, Mangini’s Facebook account experienced a serious breach where inappropriate images were posted without his consent, as reported by Metalhead Zone. The unauthorized access forced the drummer to take immediate action to protect his reputation and that of his followers.
Mangini acted swiftly to address the situation publicly. He released an urgent message to inform his followers about the hack and clarify that the content appearing on his page did not come from him, as documented on YouTube. This transparent communication helped mitigate potential confusion among his fanbase about the compromised account.
The decision to delete the account entirely reflects the severity of the breach and the limitations of Facebook’s account recovery process. Rather than risk further exploitation, Mangini chose to eliminate the problem at its source. Following the incident, he took steps to secure his account, though ultimately deletion proved to be the most effective solution, as noted by Metalhead Zone.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by public figures on social media platforms. Despite platform protections and recovery options, determined hackers can persist in their attempts to compromise high-profile accounts. Mangini’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for other celebrities and public figures about the importance of robust account security measures. The sometimes difficult choice between fighting to recover a compromised account or starting fresh becomes evident in situations like this.
