Evan Rachel Wood Shares The First Traumatizing Experience With Marilyn Manson
The first part of Evan Rachel Wood’s documentary entitled ‘Phoenix Rising’ premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. In the film, the actress opens up about her first horrible experience with Marilyn Manson, which took place in the music video of ‘Heart-Shaped Glasses.’
While the rumors that Marilyn Manson has abused many of his partners in the past have been circulating for years, it wasn’t until February 1, 2021, that a victim confirmed these allegations. Manson’s former girlfriend and actress Evan Rachel Wood shared a post on her official Instagram account and publicly announced that Manson abused her for years from 2006 to 2011.
Following her public announcement, many other victims of abuse started to reveal their stories with Manson and several sued him for sexual assault and battery. Since then, 16 women have come forward and targetted Manson, but the musician has denied every single one of those claims. The rocker also preferred to stay silent throughout this entire process, during which his label, manager, and agent dropped him.
Nearly a year after her first announcement, Evan Rachel Wood came with a two-part documentary entitled ‘Phoenix Rising’ to share the details of her story with Marilyn Manson. The first part of the documentary premiered on Sunday night at the Sundance Film Festival, and the details are pretty devastating.
The actress looked back on when she appeared on the music video of ‘Heart-Shaped Glasses,’ which was first released on May 8, 2007. The video features Manson and Evan Rachel Wood kissing while having sex while they are covered in blood. Although these scenes were believed to be staged, Wood said in her documentary that they were actually real.
According to the actress, she was first told to shoot the scenes as if they were having sex whereas Manson actually raped her in front of the cameras once they started rolling. Wood remembered those horrible times by saying that she didn’t feel safe during that traumatizing experience as nobody helped her.
Recalling the first time Manson sexually abused Wood, she said the following as reported by Rolling Stone:
“It’s nothing like I thought it was going to be. We’re doing things that were not what was pitched to me. We had discussed a simulated sex scene, but once the cameras were rolling, he started penetrating me for real. I had never agreed to that… It was complete chaos. I did not feel safe. No one was looking after me.
It was a really traumatizing experience filming the video. I felt disgusting and that I had done something shameful, and I could tell that the crew was uncomfortable and nobody knew what to do. I was coerced into a commercial sex act under false pretenses.
That’s when the first crime was committed against me. I was essentially raped on camera. But I was scared to do anything that would upset Brian in any way. The video was just the beginning of the violence that would keep escalating over the course of the relationship.”
