Erik Grönwall has shared a remarkable reflection about his first performance with Skid Row on Instagram.

“Three years ago today, I took the stage for the first time as the lead singer of Skid Row – opening for Scorpions during their Las Vegas residency,” Grönwall said. “It was just six months after my bone marrow transplant and multiple chemotherapy treatments, and I was like a skeleton wrapped in flesh.”

“The experience was insane in so many ways, and it’s something I will cherish forever,” he continued.

His statement showcases remarkable resilience during his recovery from serious medical treatments. The performance took place during the Scorpions’ Las Vegas residency.

This reflection marks a significant moment in Grönwall’s career. His journey with Skid Row has experienced several dramatic turns since that first performance.

Planet Rock revealed that Grönwall received a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in March 2021. He achieved cancer-free status within five months after intensive treatment and a bone marrow transplant.

Blabbermouth reported Grönwall’s joining of Skid Row in March 2022. He joined just six months after completing his cancer treatment. He then contributed to the band’s sixth studio album, ‘The Gang’s All Here.’

The demanding tour schedule created challenges for his recovery. Grönwall announced his departure from the band in March 2024. “I got the opportunity to join this incredible band 6 months after my treatment against leukemia,” he stated. “However, it proved challenging touring the world with an impaired immune system. I respect and understand that Skid Row is a touring band but since I can’t prioritize my health being in the band, I have decided that it’s better for me to step aside.”

Recent reports indicate that Lzzy Hale of Halestorm stepped in as a temporary vocalist. She performed during Skid Row’s North American tour dates in May and June 2024.
