Eddie Vedder Gets Emotional During His Speech Dedicated To 9/11 Survivors

During Pearl Jam‘s recent show in New York, the lead vocalist Eddie Vedder gave an emotional speech dedicated to the survivors of 9/11. Also, the band opened up more about the importance of this incident and mentioned the organizations that support the survivors and responders of that day.

Pearl Jam announced in the previous years that they would hit the road for a Europen tour in the summer of 2020. After releasing their first album in seven years, ‘Gigaton,’ they also informed the fans about the North American tour dates. However, they had to change their schedule due to COVID-19 restrictions, and the North American leg was postponed.

Although the band rescheduled the new dates for 2021, things did not go as planned, and they postponed the shows once again. In March 2022, the band announced new North America dates for May and September 2022, starting in San Diego. They also continued their European tour in June, beginning in Landgraaf, Netherlands.

The band returned to North America on September 1 with its performance in Quebec City, Canada. On September 11, 2022, the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 Terror Attacks, they took the stage in New York City. During the show, Eddie Vedder took a break from singing and paid tribute to the responders and victims of the attacks.

Recently, the band’s Twitter account shared Vedder’s speech in which he mentioned the importance of this traumatic experience for the entire country. While the singer pointed out that the incident proved that they should be united, he and the audience had a highly emotional moment. According to him, the attacks encouraged them to support each other, and they should never forget that in the future.

Eddie Vedder said the following on Pearl Jam’s Twitter:

“9/12 people came together as one. And most importantly, in our country, we supported each other. There was a time when we supported each other. That’s the part that we cannot forget. We can stay together.

The band also shared tweets saying they should help each other to ensure medical treatments for the survivors of this heartbreaking incident. As they stated, the Bipartisan 9/11 Responder and the Survivor Health Funding and Correction Act provided for the needs of responders and survivors.

Pearl Jam wrote the following in its tweets:

“Today, we need to support each other to ensure the heroes of 9/11 continue to receive medical treatment for the injuries and illnesses from that horrific day.”

The band added:

“The Bipartisan 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding and Correction Act ensure the program gets the funding to meet the medical needs of responders and survivors.”
