Keith Merrow, guitarist for technical death metal band Vitriol, recently revealed the circumstances behind the band’s breakup in a statement shared on Instagram. The announcement detailed a dramatic split involving all band members leaving the group.
Merrow explained the reasons behind the mass exodus, citing ongoing conflicts with the band’s singer. According to his account, the decision to leave came after repeated incidents of verbal outbursts directed at the crew.
“He f*cked around and found out. I’ll be home for thanksgiving, baby. Sorry Vitriol fans. We had to abandon him at a gas station in Vermont,” Merrow wrote. “Myself, Andy, Brett, and Matt will not take Kyle’s cowardly and weak outbursts of misplaced anger. We gave everything we had, and now have now left you with nothing. Mass exodus. This was the darkest day of my music career to date.”
Merrow further emphasized that the decision was straightforward. He attributed the breakup to the singer’s behavior rather than any complex underlying issues.
“Everyone who’s reading this; me, Brett, and Andy left Vitriol because Kyle sucks. That’s it. It doesn’t require an absolutely psychotic 2 part video series to explain. He irrationally screamed at the whole crew at the top of his lungs on multiple occasions,” he continued. “We simply won’t tolerate it, just like all the other 19 people who left his failed band. What more needs to be said? It’s the same sh*t as every other victim of his abuse.”
The incident marks a significant turning point in the band’s troubled history. It reveals deeper issues within the group’s dynamics and leadership.
The technical death metal band imploded mid-tour in November 2025, as reported by Consequence. Guitarist Keith Merrow, bassist Brett Leier, and drummer Andy Vincenzetti quit the band and abandoned founding frontman Kyle Rasmussen at a gas station in Vermont. The split stemmed from Rasmussen’s repeated outbursts of anger, which had reportedly escalated after a show in New York.
The band’s instability had been evident long before this dramatic incident. The PRP noted that Vitriol’s lineup had already been unstable, with previous members, including bassist Adam Roethlisberger, leaving mid-tour earlier in 2024. This pattern of departures suggests that Rasmussen’s management style and behavior had been problematic for some time, creating a revolving door of musicians unwilling to continue working with the frontman.
Following the abandonment, Rasmussen provided his own account of events. The PRP reported that Rasmussen clarified the incident involved not only himself but also his girlfriend and dog. He subsequently set up a GoFundMe to help them get home. The remaining tour dates were left in limbo following the mass exodus.
The future of Vitriol remains uncertain following this dramatic split. The founding frontman was abandoned mid-tour, and the majority of the band’s lineup has departed. The technical death metal act now faces significant challenges in rebuilding and moving forward. The incident has become emblematic of the broader tensions that have plagued the band throughout its recent history.
