Dave Mustaine Says James Hetfield Didn’t Respond To His ‘Support’ Message

Megadeth vocalist-guitarist Dave Mustaine recently joined an interview with Louder Sound and revealed that he texted James Hetfield to show support for the challenging times he’s going through, but the singer did not respond.

Besides his singing, James Hetfield came to the fore in the metal scene with his guitar playing. He plays rhythm guitar and lead guitar during Metallica’s performances, and his solos are highly praised. Although he has been considered one of the most successful guitarists, Hetfield opened up about his insecurities about playing it in the previous months.

In May, Papa Het stated during his Belo Horizonte concert that he felt like an older man and could no longer play guitar on the stage. Later, he added that he was thankful to his bandmates who supported him when he felt insecure. As he mentioned, they shared a hug before taking the stage, and his friends said to him that they would help him while performing.

James Hetfield said the following on the stage:

“I talked to these guys, and they helped me – simple as that. They gave me a hug and said, ‘Hey, if you’re struggling on stage, we’ve got your back.‘ And I tell you, it means the world to me.”

In a recent interview, Dave Mustaine, who worked with Hetfield in Metallica before forming Megadeth, indicated that he sent a message to his former bandmate to show his support. Mustaine conveyed he texted Hetfield to say he loves him and likes his guitar playing.

The musician pointed out that Hetfield did not play guitar during the earlier years of Metallica; however, now he is among the ‘best metal guitar players.’ Papa Het did not respond, but Mustaine said he only wanted him to understand that he is not alone as he goes through the same difficulties while delivering the guitar.

The Megadeth guitarist said the following about Metallica and James Hetfield:

“I love those guys. I sent a text message to James just a couple of days ago after he’d said that he was insecure about his playing. I said, ‘James, I love you, and I really like your playing.’ He didn’t answer. Of course not. Why would he? The point is I wanted him to know that I’ve had those feelings too, but I don’t know. I must remind you that when I joined Metallica, James did not play guitar.

He just picked it up and started playing when I was in the band. But let’s be honest; James is one of the best metal guitar players in the world. So for him to have those feelings, that’s a lie because he’s a mind-blowingly talented guy. So I just felt I needed to say something to him. I didn’t tweet it. I didn’t want anybody to know what I said.”

Dave Mustaine did not hesitate to support his former bandmate James Hetfield during this challenging time. In the past, Hetfield was one of the first people to text Mustaine an emotional support message while the singer was struggling with throat cancer.
