Daryl Hall has expressed strong criticism against the “yacht rock” genre label in a recent interview on Broken Record Podcast.
The Hall & Oates frontman addressed the musical categorization. He explained his perspective on what the music actually represents.
“This is something I don’t understand. First of all, yacht rock was a fucking joke by two jerk offs in California and suddenly it became a genre. I don’t even understand it,” Hall said. “It’s just R&B with maybe some jazz in there. It’s mellow R&B. It’s smooth R&B. I don’t see what the yacht part is.”
Hall’s comments emphasize his frustration with the yacht rock label. He stresses the music’s true roots in R&B and jazz instead.
