Courtney Love Claims Refusing Brad Pitt Cost Her The ‘Fight Club’ Role

We all know Courtney Love as the love of Kurt Cobain’s life and the talented frontwoman of Hole. However, she also pursued an acting career and appeared on screen numerous times. As it turns out, we could’ve seen Love as Fight Club’s Marla if she hadn’t refused Brad Pitt. The artist disclosed some details about this matter in her recent conversation with the WTF Podcast.
According to Courtney Love, she had her biggest fight with her ex Edward Norton due to a proposed Nirvana movie. Love told Marc Maron that it was “The first time Kurt got used as a chit.” Later on, after she had starred in the 1996 biographical drama ‘The People Vs. Larry Flynt,’ Love claimed she was part of the official cast of ‘Fight Club’ as Marla.
At that time, the Hole singer got a call from Gus Van Sant and Brad Pitt. As Courtney Love said, the two approached her to make a movie about Kurt Cobain’s life. “I went nuclear,” she said, revealing she didn’t like their offer. “I don’t do Faust. Who the f*ck do you think?”
Courtney revealed that her refusal resulted in her being fired from the cast of ‘Fight Club.’ “Then Norton gets home, he starts sobbing. He was like, ‘I don’t have the power!’” She continued, “[My] landline rang. It was David Fincher. I knew it was going to be him. And he fired me because I wouldn’t let Brad play Kurt.”
As Love stated, Brad Pitt also approached her in 2020 for a Cobain biopic, but she refused him yet again. “I don’t know if I trust you, and I don’t know that your movies are for profit,” Love said she told Pitt. “If you don’t get me, you kinda don’t [get] Kurt, and I don’t feel like you do, Brad.”
Looking back on those times, Courtney said Brad Pitt made her and her friends feel like he had been stalking her for a Kurt Cobain biopic. “My friend Cameron Crowe told me Brad Pitt was put on this earth to stalk you for Kurt,” Love said, “which has been going on since ’96.”
Courtney Love told Maron there would likely be a Kurt Cobain biopic in the future, but she wants it to be produced by Warner Bros. Apparently, the person who will portray Kurt Cobain in the movie will definitely not be Brad Pitt.
