Her public show of support emerges as new developments unfold in the case.

ABC7 revealed details of an attack on Lanez at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on May 12, 2025. He suffered 14 stab wounds to his back, torso, head, and face. The facility identified Santino Casio as the alleged attacker. Casio, a 42-year-old inmate, serves a life sentence for second-degree murder.

CityNews reported Drake’s involvement in the situation. The artist shared a petition calling for Lanez’s release, citing safety concerns following the attack.

Fox LA covered recent claims by Lanez’s legal team about new evidence in the case. The team maintains Lanez never shot Megan. They point to Megan’s former friend, Kelsey Harris, as the shooter. A non-party witness testified to seeing two women fighting.

The case originated on July 12, 2020, with Lanez’s arrest in the Hollywood Hills after a party. Initial reports attributed Megan Thee Stallion’s injuries to glass. She later revealed on Instagram that she had suffered gunshot wounds. During a subsequent Instagram Live session, she identified Lanez as her shooter.

LaPlante’s statement adds to the ongoing public discourse. Supporters and critics continue their debate about the shooting’s circumstances and aftermath.
