Corey Taylor recently revealed why he thought Tool was boring while speaking to Steve O.
The rocker and the former Jackass star were talking about their favorite live bands when Steve said his favorite was Tool. So, Taylor, upon hearing that, discussed why he didn’t get Maynard James Keenan’s band:
“Tool, to me, is an acquired taste [to watch live] because they’re so dialed that it’s almost like listening to the album. And as a punk kid growing up, that’s not necessarily where I’m at.”
He continued by diving deeper into what ‘bored’ him about the band’s shows:
“They’re amazing at what they do, but when I go to a show, I want to see something as well. And because they’re not as demonstrably active, I get bored. And I hate to say that. It’s not because they’re boring. It’s because I’m myself bored because I’m so used to sh*t like Napalm Death where Barney [Greenway]’s walking up walls and f*cking jumping on people’s heads.”
Slipknot frontman then got on a more positive note, even praising Tool’s ‘onstage harmony’ while expressing how he, perhaps, should give them another chance:
“But what [Tool] do is so… I mean, Danny Carey’s one of the greatest f*cking drummers of all time. The way they mesh together as a band is so effortless. They take you there. And they’ll extrapolate stuff for minutes upon minutes, they’re just pulling you in. It’s crazy. Maybe I should go and see them now… As I’m older I would probably appreciate it more than when I was younger.”
So, although Corey seemed willing to give Tool another chance, some rock fans on different social media platforms had been discussing whether Tool was ‘boring‘ or ‘overrated‘ for years. The topic even became a TikTok meme at one point, and you can check it out here.
