Corey Taylor Makes Positive Progress In Recovering His Mental Health

In a new post on Instagram, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor shared an optimistic update on his journey towards mental health recovery.

Alongside a photo with his wife, Alicia, Taylor expressed his gratitude and love with a simple message, writing:

“My Strength. My Life.”

A Step Back For A Leap Forward

This update comes after a turbulent period for the singer, marked by the cancellation of his North American solo tour earlier in January due to health concerns. The decision to cancel the tour, which was set to kick off in Toronto on February 3rd and run through March 3rd with Des Rocs and Jigsaw Youth opening, was not made lightly.

The rocker had planned an extensive series of performances across North America but was compelled to prioritize his well-being. The deterioration of his mental and physical health prompted him to take a step back, a decision he shared with his fans on Instagram, stating:

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming North American tour. For the past several months my mental and physical health have been breaking down, and I reached a place that was unhealthy for my family and I.”

Navigating Challenges And Misunderstandings

The road to recovery is seldom straight. Taylor’s subsequent announcement of a brief tour in Southeast Asia sparked confusion and backlash, as some fans struggled to reconcile this decision with his earlier cancellation due to mental health concerns. In response, Taylor released a video explaining:

“The truth of the matter is I understand why so many of you are upset, and I’m just gonna break it down for you. I, over the last year, have had a complete and utter breakdown of boundaries, mental health, ego, entitlement, the whole nine yards, culminating in a very, very real, very near relapse that I kind of don’t recognize myself. So, again, I wanted to address this and just tell people that I needed time to reset; I needed time to start working on my heart and my mind and get straight.”

The decision to continue with the Southeast Asia tour, comprised of only four shows, was part of Taylor’s cautious approach to see how he would manage on a smaller scale. He stressed the importance of self-care and the support of his family during this time.
