Chris Jericho Admits He Acted Like An Idiot Upon Meeting James Hetfield For The First Time
Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho answered fans’ questions in a recent article by Metal Hammer. While answering one of the questions, he remembered the first time he met the Metallica icon, James Hetfield.
In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Chris Jericho answered some fans’ questions. Among others, one of his fans recalled seeing Jericho after a show but not being able to talk to the musician. The fan then asked him if he had also experienced something similar to that.
As a response, Jericho recalled when he first met James Hetfield when he was in his early 30s. According to the musician, he approached Hetfield and thanked him for the music and lyrics, just ‘like an idiot.’ Jericho then talked about a similar experience he had with Paul McCartney.
As Jericho said, he bumped into McCartney at a dinner and told him he could protect him from the ninjas. Later on, he approached McCartney while he was taking photos with fans to say he could get him out of there if he wanted to. As it turned out, McCartney remembered him as the ninja guy, and he told Chris he would let him know if he had trouble with ninjas.
During a Q&A with fans on Metal Hammer, one of Jericho’s fans asked him the following:
“I met you after a show once, and I couldn’t speak. Who have you met that has reduced you to gibbering idiocy?”
Chris Jericho then responded:
“The first time I met James Hetfield, which was weird because I was in my early 30s. I just went on about, ‘Thank you for the music, thank you for the lyrics,’ like an idiot.
I did the same to Paul McCartney. It was at a Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame dinner, and he was walking past me, and I said, ‘Hey Paul, if you get attacked by the ninjas, just know I’ve got your back.’ He looked at me like, ‘What are you talking about?’
Later on, a load of people was trying to get pictures with him while he was at the buffet, and I went over and said, ‘Hey, just let me know if you need me to get you out of here.’ And he said, ‘Who are you, man? Are you a security guard? Listen, if I have any trouble with the ninjas, I’ll let you know, OK?’ And all I could think was, ‘He remembers me! I’m the ninja guy!'”
Currently, Jericho has finished working on Fozzy’s eighth album, which they plan to release at some point in 2022. Besides, he is also busy with wrestling, podcasting, acting, and writing during his spare time.
