After coming out as a trans woman, Chester Bennington’s daughter Draven Bennington has answered some questions and called out bigots.
She took to Instagram to thank her family and friends for their support, and also added, “To the bigots, I hope you learn the valuable lesson of love.”
“Until then I wish every time you turn off the lights and walk to bed that you step on a Lego,” Draven continued. “It’s clear that you are filled with ignorance and hatred and I hope one day you find your way out. You can try all you want to tear us down but we will just stand up taller and more proud! If me living my best life makes your mad, I hope it gets under your skin… actually I LOVE that it gets under your skin!”
In the caption of her post, she also answered some frequently asked questions. “I’m keeping the name Draven (it’s pretty androgynous and can’t think of a cooler name lol),” she revealed. “I prefer she/her pronouns, please don’t use he/him pronouns. Also so many people are asking so I’ll leave this here. I fall somewhere on the bi/pan spectrum but I haven’t completely figured out which I identify with.”
Draven announced the news on Valentine’s Day. She revealed she was a trans woman and that she started transitioning last year.
“For a long time, I tried to be someone I wasn’t.” She admitted that ignoring her true self worked for a while, but eventually, she had to choose between happiness and going along with things. “I came out as transgender and started hormone replacement therapy, and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made,” she continued.
Draven also shared deep gratitude for everyone who has accepted her for who she is, saying, “With all the love and support I’ve received, I’ve finally found the strength to love myself. That’s why I’m done hiding. Love is love. Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Draven’s mother Samantha wrote in the comment section of the latter post, “Love you,” alongside three hearts. She also commented on the first post, saying she is very proud of her and loves her daughter with all her heart and soul.
