Brittany Furlan has opened up about the circumstances that led to her involvement in a catfishing scandal. She cited loneliness in her marriage to Tommy Lee as a contributing factor. Furlan addressed the situation that involved her communicating with someone impersonating Falling in Reverse frontman Ronnie Radke. She explained the personal struggles that made her vulnerable to the deception.
“We’ve been through a lot the two of us and we love each other very much,” Furlan said. “We had to forgive each other for different things throughout the marriage you know. This whole situation was really just like a sad unfortunate situation.”
She elaborated on the emotional state that led to her involvement in the scandal.
“I reached a place of loneliness in my marriage where I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy,” she continued. “I got to a point where I was just so incredibly lonely and we were very disconnected for a very long time.”
Furlan acknowledged her mistake while explaining the circumstances that influenced her decision to engage with the impersonator.
“And when this person reached out to me on Snapchat, I took the bait,” she said. “I think coming from a place of desperate loneliness, you kind of grasp onto any affection that anyone gives you or attention or whatever. That doesn’t make it right. I’m sitting here and going like, ‘I shouldn’t have responded I shouldn’t have engaged.'”
She reflected on the toll the marital difficulties had taken. She expressed regret about how the private matter became public.
“But it was just really hard for a really long time and it wears on your soul,” Furlan explained. “It’s not for public consumption. And unfortunately this got brought to public consumption. And I wish I never even made like a video responding to any of it. Because I just think I felt so attacked ‘cuz there were so many videos being made about me that I was like let me defend myself. And then I was like why did I even defend myself. This is none of anyone’s business. This is mine and my husband’s business and the apparent person that got pulled into this.”
The catfishing incident has brought renewed attention to the couple’s relationship struggles. These struggles have been the subject of public speculation for months.
