Brian Johnson Says Joe Walsh Was Calling The Eagles His ‘Backing Band’

In a recent appearance on BBC Radio 2’s Tracks Of My Years, AC/DC lead vocalist Brian Johnson remembered the time Joe Walsh said we had the greatest backing band, referring to the Eagles.
It is very possible to see that most artists in the music industry spend time together and build close relationships over time, which is not that surprising considering they share the same social and professional circles. Sometimes they move their personal relationship to the studio and collaborate on projects. AC/DC’s Brian Johnson and the Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh are also old friends, who have known each other for years.
After the Eagles delivered an epic sold-out show at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 23, 2019, Walsh shared a photo with Johnson on his Instagram and wrote that they had jammed in the studio. So, this sparked some rumors about whether the two prominent names of rock would join forces. However, it was probably a misunderstanding or an eager wish of their fans since they didn’t record anything.
When he was recently asked to list the songs that have soundtracked his life, Brian Johnson named his old-term friend Joe Walsh’s ‘Rocky Mountain Way.’ The singer said it was one of his all-time favorites and Walsh is one of his best friends. Then, Johnson recalled the time they got together in London, and said they spent a great time. The vocalist also remembered Walsh calling the Eagles his ‘backing band‘ after the show. Brian revealed that they still keep in touch and talk to each other a lot.
Brian Johnson’s words on Joe Walsh:
“‘Rocky Mountain’ is my favorite of all time songs. Joe Walsh is one of my bestest friends, and he is the funniest, loveliest man. We had a wonderful time together at Wembley at the Taylor Hawkins gig. I was on the side, I was waiting to go on. And this is Joe, a hundred thousand people there, his band, James Gang, roadies, there is the crew, and I just stood there and was gonna go on in a couple of minutes.
He was coming on for me, and he said, ‘Brian Johnson, now I know the night is gonna be alright.’ He gave us the biggest laugh, I was crying, and I was like ‘Thank you, son.’ It was lovely. We keep in touch a lot now. I shouldn’t say this, but I’m gonna say it anyway. When he goes and comes up, it is brilliant. We all love the Eagles. Of course, even the audience. Every time Joe just shifts in his chair. And he is getting quite mischievous, turns around and, ‘I got the greatest backing band in the world.'”
