Bob Rock Sells His Share Of Rights To Metallica’s ‘Black Album’ Along With 43 Other Songs

Well-known producer Bob Rock has recently announced that he has sold his rights to more than 40 tracks of Metallica to Hipgnosis Songs Fund, including the band’s iconic fifth studio album, ‘The Black Album.’

As you may know, Bob Rock started his career with Metallica back in 1990 when they worked on the band’s self-titled album which was also known as ‘The Black Album.’ Even though Bob and the band members often came into conflict with each other during the recording of the album, they managed to become Metallica’s best-selling album. ‘The Black Album’ also marked a significant change in Metallica’s sound which mainly shifted from thrash metal to both heavier and slower sound.

Additionally, Rock produced the band’s following popular albums, including ‘Load,’ ‘ReLoad,’ and ‘St. Anger.’ Bob is also known for writing and playing the bass guitar parts of ‘St. Anger’ album since Jason Newsted left the band. He continued to play bass for Metallica’s live shows until they hired Rob Trujillo in 2003.

According to the official announcement of Hipgnosis Songs Fund, Bob Rock has sold his share of rights to Metallica’s 43 tracks. The founder of Hipgnosis Songs, Merck Mercuriadis, talked about the various successful music Rock produced over the course of his career, including Metallica’s ‘The Black Album’ to Michael Bublé‘s ‘Christmas.’ Mercuriadis also mentioned that Bob has ended up making multiple albums with every artist he worked and help them to achieve enormous successes since he was definitely a ‘difference-maker.’

Here is what Merck Mercuriadis stated about Bob Rock and his career as a producer:

“The breadth of Bob Rock’s enormous successes are almost impossible to match by any creator in the history of music. From Metallica’s most famous Black Album to Michael Bublé’s ‘Christmas’, he has produced some of the biggest albums of all time that continue to be evergreen, year in and year out.

Everyone who has worked with Bob knows he is a difference-maker, which is why the artists he has produced end up making multiple albums with him which are almost always their biggest successes. Bob is very special and as a fellow Canadian, it is a pleasure to welcome him and his incredible productions to the Hipgnosis family.”
