In a conversation with the current Eurovision performers, Björn Ulvaeus, talked about the humble beginnings of their journey. He recollected the uncertainty that hung in the air as they prepared to perform on the Eurovision stage, clueless about the monumental turn their lives were about to take.
ABBA’s road began when they represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest, emerging victorious with their performance of ‘Waterloo’. In a recent engagement, Ulvaeus shared this transformative experience with the current Eurovision performers, reminding them that a performance on the Eurovision stage could forever change their lives.
Ulvaeus underscored the crucial role of Eurovision in catapulting ABBA to global acclaim. In the midst of their anticipation and nerves, he wished the performers good luck, reminding them of the profound impact that a successful performance at Eurovision can have on their careers.
He said:
“The lives of some of the acts that you’ve seen tonight could be about to change forever. When ABBA walked onto that stage, we couldn’t even have imagined, 50 years later, we would have a museum about us, and that we would perform as avatars in ABBA Voyage. Our international success all began with Eurovision. So I want to say to all the acts who are waiting nervously right now – I just want to say ‘good luck,’ and who knows where this journey will take you?”
As the Eurovision Song Contest concluded, this year’s trophy went to Sweden once again, with Loreen’s performance of her song ‘Tattoo’. This victory marks another significant win for Sweden following Loreen’s triumph with ‘Euphoria’ in 2012. As we celebrate the success of the winners, we also look forward to the inspiring journeys that await the Eurovision performers in the years to come.
