Green Day shared their admiration for Billie Eilish after performing together at FireAid LA on January 30.

In an interview with Billboard at the Grammys, Billie Joe Armstrong explained how he became a fan of Billie Eilish.

“It’s funny, when [Eilish] first started coming out, I saw some footage of her on Instagram – I saw some merch, and there was a headband that said ‘Billie’ with an ‘ie’, and I said, ‘I have to have that!'”

She then sent him some Billie-themed merch. “And then so she sent me a bunch of merch that had ‘Billie’ on it, and I was like, ‘Yes,'” the frontman added.

The two performed ‘Last Night On Earth’ together before Green Day finished their set with ‘Still Breathing’ and ‘When I Come Around.’

While Armstrong is a fan of Eilish, this isn’t the first time two Billies came together. In 2019, Armstrong and Eilish interviewed each other for a special edition of Rolling Stone magazine.

Armstrong told her, “I know this sounds [weird], but I always gravitate toward music that sounds like freedom. And that’s what I get from your music. It’s like an earnest person that’s expressing themselves and incorporating new sounds. Some of it sounds like jazz to me, if that’s cool to say?”

In other news, Green Day will headline Download Festival in the UK this summer for the first time.
