Billie Joe Armstrong Finds The Most Bizarre Way To Promote Green Day

On January 19, Green Day released their fourteenth studio album, ‘Saviors,’ along with its fifth single, ‘Bobby Sox.’ To mark the occasion, Billie Joe Armstrong chose an unusual way to celebrate.

In a new Instagram video, the band’s vocalist tattooed the album’s name, ‘Saviors,’ on his own leg, captioning it with a reference to the album’s one-week anniversary. Another video showed him adding a ‘Bobby Sox’ tattoo on his calf, with a caption reading, “Bobby Sox!’ ’Cause why not?’

Fan Reactions To The Promotional Move

The videos sparked a variety of responses, with people’s comments going from humorous to appreciative. One of the comments jokingly highlighted Armstrong’s history with tattoos as it read:

“I’m surprised his leg is completely untattooed.”

A fan referred to the freehand tattoo and wrote:

“The tattoo artist in me is trying so hard to appreciate how punk this is and that only Billie Joe could get away with it.”

Meanwhile, some followers discussed Green Day’s new music, as one person commented on his second video:

“I think ‘Bobby Sox’ is one of the best songs you’ve ever written.”

The Band’s New Album

‘Saviors’ came out through Reprise Records following four singles since October titled ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me,’ ‘Look Ma, No Brains!,’ ‘Dilemma,’ and ‘One Eyed B*stard.’ Upon its release, the album received generally good reviews both from fans and critics, securing a top position in the UK charts.

Armstrong’s self-tattooing is just one part of the new record’s promotion. Green Day is planning a world tour starting on May 30 in Spain, which will last until Fall 2024, to support it.
