Belinda Carlisle started her ‘Decades Tour’ on June 30 to promote her new EP, ‘Kismet.’ In an interview with ABC Audio before the tour, she revealed her plans to perform both her new and old songs to please Go-Go’s fans.
During the chat, the singer explained whether she would play songs from her latest record and said:
“I think one or two, definitely. I know when I go to see somebody, I don’t want to see half a set of new songs. I want to hear the old stuff. So it’s a kind of a balancing act of just slotting in just enough to give a taste of some of the new stuff. I will probably do a couple songs — two out of five isn’t bad. Because I have a lot of material between the Go-Go’s and my own solo career.”
Then, she shared some of the songs that were always in her setlists so that the fans wouldn’t get disappointed:
“‘Heaven [Is a Place On Earth],’ ‘Mad About You,’ ‘Circle In The Sand,’ and probably ‘I Get Weak.’ People always ask, ‘Aren’t you tired of singing ‘Heaven?’’ [But] when I sing it live … just seeing people’s reaction to it makes it really fun for me. [For Go-Go’s] ‘Our Lips are Sealed’ is always in the set. [It’s] pretty much one of the songs that’s always there.”
On the other hand, according to another recent interview with OutClique, while she enjoyed singing her old songs on stage, Carlisle did not feel nostalgic about them. She explained her feelings by saying:
“It seems like yesterday for me [laughs]. So, it doesn’t really feel that nostalgic, but I know it is for a lot of people because it represents a time when things in the world were less complicated, and I think that’s part of the beauty of my music. It does represent that, and it’s uplifting. I know I like to escape when I go to shows, and it’s been great to provide an escape for people from the daily stresses of their lives.”
