Avril Lavigne Reflects On Being An Inspiration For Young Female Musicians


Avril Lavigne opened up about the next generation of female musicians that she inspired with her longtime career in the music industry during her recent interview with The Guardian. Lavigne named the artists that revealed that they were huge fans while she was taking with them.

Lavigne became one of the artists discovered when she was very young and signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records at sixteen. She released her first studio album, ‘Let Go,’ on June 4, 2002, which produced several well-known songs of the singer. The success continued with six more records, and Lavigne earned the title of ‘Pop Punk Queen,’ which significantly influenced various musicians.

Furthermore, Billie Eilish defined Lavigne as her idol many times. In one of her posts on Instagram, the singer shared her gratefulness for contributing a lot to her musical style and journey. Willow Smith and the punk rock star teamed up for a song, ‘GROW,’ featuring Travis Barker. Then she joined Olivia Rodrigo, who saw herself as an Avril Lavigne fangirl, to perform her classic ‘Complicated’ on the stage as a part of ‘Sour Tour.’

Billie Eilish said in her post:

“Thank you for making me what I am.”

In her conversation, the musician highlighted that she’s delighted to meet young generation female musicians like Billie Eilish, Willow Smith, Olivia Rodrigo, and many more who gained great fame with their extraordinary talent. Lavigne shared that she was one of their muses at the beginning of their professional musical career. It was fantastic for her to know that they listened to her songs when they were very young.

The singer said in her interview that:

“That younger generations are discovering my stuff and that Billie, Olivia, and Willow Smith go out into the world and continue to shatter the mold as I did 20 years ago is super-inspiring. All these people around me are like: ‘Oh my God, I’m a huge fan; I listened to you growing up; you inspired me!’ It’s trippy.”
