Anthrax’s Scott Ian Shows His New Tattoo Dedicated To A Rap Band
Anthrax rhythm guitarist and co-founder Scott Ian recently shared a post on his official Instagram page revealing his brand new tattoo which is the official logo of the rap band Public Enemy. While showing off his fresh tattoo to his fans, the musician also expressed how long he has been wanting a tattoo dedicated to the band.
For those of you who may not know, Ian Scott is a fan of hip hop and rap music, especially Public Enemy and Run-DMC. In the late 1980s, he was spotted wearing Public Enemy shirts while performing at gigs multiple times. Eventually, he convinced his band to collaborate with PE on ‘Bring the Noise’ in 1991, which is now considered a foundational recording of the rap/rock genre.
In 2005, the Anthrax musician was invited by Chuck D of Public Enemy to perform ‘Bring the Noise’ with them as part of their induction into VH1’s Hip Hop Honors Hall of Fame. Being close friends with every member of the band at that point, Scott also joined Public Enemy on the ‘Rock the Bells’ tour in 2007.
After getting the chance to work with the band he’s admired for so many years, Scott Ian recently revealed his new tribute move in honor of Public Enemy, and this time it’s permanent. Since Public Enemy has drawn major attention for their political messages about causes such as racism and the media, it’s no surprise that their logo features a silhouette in the middle of a target.
In order to fulfill his desire to get a tattoo dedicated to the band, Scott Ian actually got Public Enemy’s logo tattooed on his upper arm. While sharing the pictures of his brand new tattoo, Ian also revealed that he has been wanting the logo tattooed on his body since 1987 and finally immortalized his love for the band thanks to his new tattoo as well.
Scott Ian’s caption in his IG post follows:
“Whatcha gonna do? Rap is not afraid of you – Beat is for Sonny Bono, the beat is for Yoko Ono – Run-DMC first said a deejay could be a band – Stand on its feet, get you out your seat – Beat is for Eric B. and LL as well, hell – Wax is for Anthrax, still it can rock bells – Ever forever, universal, it will sell – Time for me to exit, Terminator X-it. Turn it up! Bring the noise! I’ve been wanting the PE logo tattooed since 1987. Thank you Sara Lou Tattoo for making it happen!”
