AC/DC Announce Lineup Change Featuring Cliff Williams But Not Phil Rudd

AC/DC recently shared an audio clip from their rehearsals for Power Trip Festival and announced that the band was going through a lineup change, as the Instagram caption wrote:

“Power up for Power Trip! Listen to the rehearsal of the boys powering up with Cliff Williams, who’s coming out of retirement for the festival, and Matt Laug on drums.”

Although the post marked Williams’ return, there were no official statements regarding Phil Rudd’s absence, and the reasons for his dismay remain unclear. However, one theory suggests that the drummer might’ve had visa troubles due to his criminal charges in 2015, for drug possession and making threats for murder.

Laug, who will be filling in for Rudd, had previously played for Alanis Morrisette on her debut album, ‘Jagged Little Pill,’ and collaborated with both Slash and Alice Cooper.

It’s currently not known whether Laug will be replacing Phil all through the band’s U.S. dates, but from what the official post suggests, it very well could be.

The Power Trip Festival will take place on October 6-8 in California, and along with AC/DC, acts such as Tool, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Judas Priest will be rocking in the two-day festival.
