Staind frontman Aaron Lewis has revealed the title of the band’s upcoming album and discussed when fans might expect to hear it, during an interview with Audacy Music.
Lewis was asked about the album during a recent interview, after the band shared the new song “Ghosts,” which will appear on the record. The frontman said the album is complete and will arrive soon, though he did not give a specific release date.
Question: “So, the tour the tour continues a few more dates in October, then you come back March and April. The new song is awesome, Ghosts. That’s going to be off a new album. Do you can we say the name of the new album yet or no?”
“It is ‘The Space Between The Darkness And The Light,'” Lewis said. “I don’t know when the record comes out. I know it’ll come out soon. I know that it’s done.”
“I’m pretty confident in saying that it’s a hell of a record and I’m proud to put it out,” he continued. “And that’s kind of where I’ve needed to be at the end of every writing and recording process for Staind, is to be proud of it and feel like anybody could pick any song off the record and that could be a single, and I’d be perfectly okay with it. And that’s where we got, and I think this is a great record, and I think it’s a great continuation of the thread that you can follow in Staind’s music, which is my lyrical content. And it fits right in with everything before it perfectly.”
Lewis then reflected on the band’s broader creative path. “Basically, all the Staind records — start from the beginning and move forward — has been an adult man trying to navigate his way through the wreckage that was left behind from childhood trauma. And I’m 54 years old now, and I’m still trying to make my way through the wreckage that was left behind.”
The remarks came as Staind continue touring, with more dates scheduled for October and a return to the road in March and April.
Staind was formed in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1995 with Lewis as lead vocalist and founding member. The band achieved major commercial success with their 2001 album Break the Cycle, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold over 4 million copies in the United States. Songs like “It’s Been Awhile” and “Outside” became dominant forces on rock radio and MTV.
After their self-titled album in 2011, the band members pursued separate projects. Lewis moved into a solo country music career while guitarist Mike Mushok joined Saint Asonia. The group reunited in 2019 and had festival appearances planned for 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted their momentum. In 2022, Staind launched their first full tour in more than a decade.
The band’s eighth studio album Confessions of the Fallen arrived in September 2023, ending a twelve-year gap since their previous release. That album marked a major milestone in the band’s history after their longest hiatus between studio projects. “Ghosts” represents their first new music since that 2023 release, continuing the band’s creative momentum forward.
Lewis’s comments about navigating trauma through Staind’s music reflect a consistent theme across the band’s catalog over their decades of recording. The new album title, “The Space Between The Darkness And The Light,” appears to continue this introspective direction that has defined their work since their formation.
