Why Guns N’ Roses Icon Slash’s Music Was Rejected By The Walking Dead

One of the greatest guitar players in history, Slash has rightfully claimed that position by showing his remarkable talents throughout his career. He started his career as the guitarist for Guns N’ Roses in 1985 but quit the band in 1996 because of his differences with Axl Rose. He had formed Snakepit in 1994 and concentrated on that band more after he left Guns N’ Roses. Snakepit went on tour with AC/DC in 2000 and then was famous enough to go on tour by themselves just before they disbanded in 2002.

Slash reunited with his former Guns N’ Roses bandmates in 2002 and thought they would fit in well together.  With that in mind, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum, and Slash formed the band Velvet Revolver. Although the band was successful in writing and composing songs, they disbanded because they could find an appropriate lead singer. In 2016, he returned to Guns N’ Roses, and he has been with the band ever since.

The guitarist was introduced to horror movies around the same time as rock, and they have become a passion for him. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2015, he revealed his top 5 horror movies and stressed his love for anything related to horror. Therefore it’s no surprise that the guitarist was inspired and wanted to create the intro music of the horror series ‘The Walking Dead.’

Which Song Did Slash Create For ‘The Walking Dead?’

Bearing in mind his successful career, it is strange to hear that Slash’s intro music for The Walking Dead series was rejected. Slash stated that he wrote the song ‘The One You Loved Is Gone’ because he was inspired by The Walking Dead and thought it would be a good idea to make it the series’ original soundtrack.

The reason they didn’t accept Slash’s song was that they didn’t want a ‘famous’ person to compose their intro track. In this case, Slash’s fame and success worked against him. The other reason, according to Slash, is that he didn’t send the song when it was completed. Instead, he only sent a recording without even plugging the guitar, which didn’t reflect what Slash initially had in mind.

‘The One You Loved Is Gone’ was later reshaped by Slash and Myles Kennedy and was released in 2018 in the album ‘Living The Dream.’ On YouTube, it now has over one million views and many comments stating that the song is a masterpiece.
