When people think about Rock N’ Roll, one of the first names that come to mind is The Rolling Stones. This idea became official in the late 1960s when they were given the title of ‘The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in The World.’ The band was founded by lead vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards.
Keith Richards is not only known for his guitar skills or as a member of The Rolling Stones, but he is also famous for his snarky comments. He has quite a reputation as he often responds sarcastically to reporters’ questions and disses other musicians. Richards has expressed his honest opinion about a lot of celebrities and one thing is for sure, he rarely filters his words.
The English singer and songwriter Elton John was one of Richards’ targets. John has released over 40 albums in his career and has earned the title of the best-selling music artist of all time by selling more than 300 million records. The Rocket Man is a successful and unique musician who is appreciated and loved by a lot of people. However, Richards does not seem to care for any of these qualities.
What Did Keith Richards Say About Elton John?
Elton John is mostly famous for his long music career which spans almost six decades. Aside from a record-breaking solo career, he has also provided his services as a songwriter to numerous musicians, whom he’s helped hit the charts, such as Ellie Goulding, George Michael, Blue, and Sam Smith.
However, it looks like these achievements were not enough for the Rolling Stones guitar icon, Richards, whose comment about John disregarded his success as a songwriter and undervalued his talent. During an interview, Keith stated that his writing is very limited and claimed that John is ‘an old bitch.’

“An old bitch… his writing is limited to songs about dead blondes.”
As much as Richards is known to be snarky with his comments about other musicians, what he said about John comes out as nasty. John did not stay silent to his comment and replied to Keith. The Rocket Man’s response was not very kind either as he stated his appreciation for the Rolling Stones but added that they would be better off without Richards because he is ‘pathetic.’
His full reply was:
“It would be awful to be like Keith Richards. He’s pathetic. It’s like a monkey with arthritis, trying to go on stage and look young. I have great respect for the Stones but they would have been better if they had thrown Keith out 15 years ago.“
John replied to Richards’ ‘bitch’ comment with resembling the iconic guitarist to a ‘monkey with arthritis’ and both of the icons’ fans wonder if their feud will ever come to an end. However, they both stated on many occasions their hate for each other and it seems like the end of the tunnel is nowhere to be seen.
