Why Alex Van Halen Lives In Seclusion, Sammy Hagar Explains

Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar explained why Alex Van Halen doesn’t appear in public during a recent appearance on Ultimate Classic Rock.

Alex and his brother, Eddie Van Halen, formed the legendary band Van Halen back in 1972. Sammy Hagar joined the band in 1985, replacing David Lee Roth, who decided to quit and pursue a solo career. Hagar’s story with Van Halen ended in 1996 due to internal problems. However, he managed to return to the band once again in 2003 but left two years later.

Unfortunately, Eddie passed away at the age of 65 in October 2020 following a long-time fight against cancer. After his passing, the rest of the band members decided not to continue without him. In the conversation, Sammy pointed out that he wanted to create a new project with Alex to honor Eddie.

However, Alex seemed like he doesn’t want to communicate with anybody, especially after the death of his brother. Even though he tried to reach out many times, Alex didn’t want to talk with him. Sammy then questioned whether Alex doesn’t want to be friends or doesn’t want to communicate, but he believes that they can work this out because there is plenty of time ahead.

Sammy Hagar explained:

“I guess if Dave and Alex teamed up then that would be kind of cool, but other than that, there is very much you can do here. You know what I mean with that… It was one of the greatest bands of all time and one of the greatest times in my life musically. So, I think we should start sharing with the people and having fun as well.

Alex just seems to he just doesn’t want to communicate with anybody. You know, Mike has reached out, and I reached out many times. I don’t know, I’m sure he’s still in pain from the whole thing, but I’m not dogging him.

I’m just saying he just really doesn’t want to be friends or doesn’t want to communicate. I don’t know why but, we still got the rest of our lives to work this out. I’m going to live to be a hundred, so I got away. We have got a lot of time to work this out.”
