When Steven Van Zandt Named The Best Band And Probably Triggered Bruce Springsteen
Steven Van Zandt is primarily known for his tenure with Brue Springsteen’s E Street Band, in which he both plays guitar and mandolin. However, Van Zandt is also a brilliant artist who has his own solo band called Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul. He also produces music and writes songs for numerous other musicians, such as Pearl Jam, Nancy Sinatra, and Jackson Browne.
Having a successful career that spans over five decades, ‘Little Steven’ knows a thing or two about legendary rock bands. Just like everybody else, he has his own favorite band, but it is not Bruce Springsteen’s. Let’s find out who is the greatest rock band, according to the guitarist.
Steven Van Zandt Is A Member Of The E Street Band
Steven Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen’s friendship goes back to when they were both musicians in Jersey Shore. Inevitably, they met each other in 1965 at the Hullabaloo club in Middletown. Being two passionate rock and roll musicians, they decided to make music together within bands such as Steel Mill and the Bruce Springsteen Band.
Although he was working with various bands, including his own, Van Zandt started spending most of his time with the E Street Band, officially joining them as a member on July 20, 1975. Before the band’s rise to fame, the rocker was one of the most important members of the band, even contributing to the signature guitar line in ‘Born to Run.’
After being the underdog for such a long time, the musician decided to take more responsibility as a member. The idea didn’t suit the leader Bruce Springsteen, which caused Steven Van Zandt’s departure from the band in 1984, just when the E Street Band rose to fame.
After 15 years of focusing on his own projects, Van Zandt rejoined the E Street Band following its reformation in 1995. While blaming Springsteen for his departure, he also admitted that he acted impulsively. Nowadays, he’s peacefully working with both his own solo band and the E Street Band.
Steven Van Zandt Named His Solo Band ‘The Best Band Ever’
Steven Van Zandt’s solo band, Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul, released its seventh studio album, ‘Summer of Sorcery‘ on May 3, 2019. The album received generally favorable reviews both from music critics and fans and found itself a place on the UK Albums chart.
During an interview with This Morning back in 2019, Little Steven opened up about reconnecting his band since he neglected Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul for nearly two decades. According to the rocker, the main reason behind this was the E Street Band and his successful acting career.
Now that he’s united with Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul, Van Zandt proudly expressed what a wonderful feeling he is experiencing with his own work. In addition to this, he stressed that his band is the best one ever assembled, which is why he’s grateful to have it back.
In his own words, Van Zandt said:
“I didn’t realize it but I kind of abandoned my own work for 20 years. I just went back to it two years ago. It has been wonderful that a couple of years ago, we connected with my own work. This band is just the best band ever assembled, I think. It’s a big part of my life.”
