Victoria De Angelis Explains Radiohead’s Influence On New Måneskin Record

Måneskin went silent for a few months after their latest release, ‘Supermodel,’ but now they’re back with a new single. It was clear that with ‘The Loneliest,’ the band tried to capture a different tone compared to its previous tracks. While having a conversation with NME, Måneskin members talked about their new single, and bassist Victoria De Angelis revealed their source of inspiration.

“It was like it’s a different and new side for a new audience,” the bassist said, confirming that Måneskin has taken a different path in their new song ‘The Loneliest.’ “But we’ve actually always been playing ballads, and they’ve always been a big part of our music. So in this one, we tried to experiment a bit more with the sound and listen to Radiohead and where they work a lot with pedals, especially for the guitar.”

‘The Loneliest’ was released on 7 October 2022. About a week later, its music video also came out. The video has a bitter and dark tone in harmony with the lyrics and musical background of the song, woven around the theme of the pain of losing a loved one. In terms of its musical style, the song is quite different, especially compared to the band’s songs like ‘Supermodel’ and ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave.’

The members of Måneskin have said many times that they want their music to be a modern interpretation of old music. ‘The Loneliest’ can also be considered as one of the radical steps they have taken in this direction, especially since Radiohead is among the major influences of the band, and a different interpretation of the Radiohead sound can be easily heard in the tone of the song.
