Sammy Hagar Recalls One Of His Final Conversations With Eddie Van Halen, ‘I Fell Apart’

In an interview with Celebrity Sleepover, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar opened up about losing his former bandmate Eddie Van Halen and explained how it felt to be able to reconnect with the guitar legend a couple of months before his death.
As you may recall, the renowned lead guitarist and the co-founder of Van Halen, Eddie passed away on October 6, 2020, following his long battle with cancer. His son Wolfgang Van Halen announced the death of his father with a heartbreaking statement on social media.
Why Hagar Was Estranged From His Former Bandmate Eddie Van Halen?
Sammy Hagar was the lead singer of Van Halen between the years 1985 and 1996, during which he recorded four studio albums with the band. One of them was the ‘Balance‘ album which was allegedly the cause of Hagar’s departure from Van Halen.
After the release of the ‘Balance’ album, Sammy and Eddie and Alex Van Halen were allegedly in an ongoing conflict. They had some disagreements about the songs in the album following by a medical issue regarding Sammy’s pregnant wife. Following their argument on the incident, Hagar was fired from the band. However, Eddie claimed that Sammy was the one who left the band.
Did Eddie Reconnect With Sammy Hagar Before His Death?
After the tragic loss of Eddie, Hagar joined various interviews to clarify whether he reconnected with his former bandmate before he passed away. Sammy stated that he and Eddie buried the hatchet and reconnected earlier in 2020. Hagar also mentioned that he would like to contribute to a tribute show for Eddie if Wolfgang or Alex asked him to join in the future.
Recently, the iconic vocalist once again opened up about how he felt when he found out that Eddie was dead. Sammy admitted that he actually fell apart when he was told that Eddie Van Halen passed away. He also stated that being able to reconnect with his former bandmate before his death was such a miracle. Apparently, Sammy and Eddie even talked about doing something together next year.

“I fell apart. It just was such a miracle that he and I hooked up about four months, five months before that. Eddie and I went really into some soul talking about doing something next year.”
