Richie Sambora Explains What Tony Iommi Means To Him
Former Bon Jovi lead guitarist Richie Sambora recently shared a post on his official Twitter account and shared his feelings towards Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi. Sambora’s admiration for him and the kind words he said drew attention.
Though many people know him as the lead guitarist of Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora has also pursued a solo career. He released three solo studio albums, the last of which dropped in 2012. Unlike the arena-rock riffs that made him famous in Bon Jovi, Sambora stood out with his experimental sounds in his solo albums.
Despite the vast commercial success he achieved with Bon Jovi, Richie left the band in 2013 to spend more time with his family. Sambora has been praised for his brilliant solos and technical competency. Thus, it is no wonder that he was heavily inspired by the guitarists that came before him, who helped him develop his guitar playing style.
Considering his recent tweet, Tony Iommi appears to be one of his biggest inspirations. Richie Sambora replied to Tony Iommi’s post from 2014, featuring a photo of the two taken in the Golden Gods ceremony. Richie said that the photo was taken while he was expressing his gratitude to Iommi for his incredible riffs and the encouragement he gave to the young guitar players.
Here are Richie’s words on Tony Iommi:
“I love Tony… At that moment I was thanking him for giving all of us those great riffs that were badass and accessible for a young guitar player to play and feel cool… Thank you Tony, for liftin’ me up.”
