Jon Bon Jovi Reveals ‘Devastating’ Conversation With His Wife

Jon Bon Jovi talked about the chat he had with his wife that made him deal with his vocal cord problems.

The Bon Jovi singer opened up about his issues with his strained voice in the band’s new Hulu series, ‘Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.’ The rocker has been struggling with his voice for a while now, and in a new interview with People, he recalled a conversation with his wife. His wife had said to him:

“It wasn’t great, and I’ve seen you be great.”

The rocker then reflected on the surgery and his thoughts on his wife’s comments:

“[It was] beyond heartbreaking, it was devastating. but there’s no one better than her to tell me the truth.”

Jon then explained what he would do if his career ended because of his voice:

“If it were going to be over, I just had to wrap my arms around that and say, ‘I’ve had an incredible career. It doesn’t mean I can’t write you a song tomorrow, just means I won’t be doing a hundred-show tour.'”

Jon Didn’t Like His Own Voice

Jon Bon Jovi wasn’t pleased with what he heard after his voice-saving surgery. In his words, it sounded raspy and he didn’t sound like himself. The rocker commented on his voice as he listened to it in a recording studio scene from the documentary.

He also said it was soul-crushing to listen to himself after the surgery:

“I had hoped that what would come through the speakers would sound like me. And not only did it not, but it was hard to do. The mechanism just didn’t work. So it was soul-crushing.”

Is It Healthy For Jon To Go On Tour?

Bon Jovi is getting ready to release their 16th studio album, ‘Legendary,’ and the lead singer is thinking about whether hitting the road again is good for his health after his surgery in 2022.

The singer explained that he’s ‘still recovering from a major surgery,’ but the aim is to tour once he’s fully able to give a great show in a radio interview with Mix 104.1 Boston. When asked about touring to promote the new album, the rocker admitted:

“I don’t know about a tour. It is my desire to do a tour next year, but I’m just still recovering from a major surgery.”

It’s been over a year and a half since his vocal cords were operated on because one of them was ‘atrophying.’ Jon also talked about how he’s been healing and explained the goal he has been working on:

“Although I’m well on the road to recovery and was able to take my time and do a song a day when I made the record, my need, want, desire is to be able to do two-and-a-half hours a night four nights a week for months on end. And so I’m working towards that goal.”

The band released their new single ‘Legendary,’ and will launch their 16th album, ‘Forever,’ in June.
