After getting to know Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee during ‘The Stadium Tour’ in North America last year, as well as their co-headlining world tour this year, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott didn’t hold back. The frontman exposed the drummer’s ‘childish’ pranks to People magazine. He explained:

“If you fell asleep, you were in deep doo-doo, because Tommy ‘I’m 5 Years Old’ Lee and John 5, probably five months older, would go around putting plant pots on people and taking pictures of them while they slept. So God help you—just don’t shut your eyes.”

Joe had previously shared in a behind-the-scenes episode of ‘Def Leppard’s World Tour’ on YouTube, that he had given his crown of ‘silly naughtiness’ to Lee after he changed Rock Fest’s name to ‘Cock Fest.’ Elliott said:

“We’re in Finland, about an hour outside of Helsinki. Now I have a reputation for in the old days; there were large trays with nice bits of decorated sand in them next to the elevators when checking out of hotels. I gave my room key, drawing naughty shapes in the sand. I have just handed over my crown of silly naughtiness to Tommy Lee. This is Tommy’s work; Rock Fest becomes Cock Fest.”

While Joe revealed Tommy’s pranks to People, guitarist Phil Collen shared that the drummer’s smuggling habits has changed over time. He added:

“At least Tommy’s smuggling plants now instead of cocaine. Bonsai trees, that’s his latest obsession.”

Def Leppard will continue their tour with Mötley Crüe in Syracuse, New York on August 5th and conclude in El Paso on August 18th before heading to Japan and Australia in November. You can get more information about the tour dates here.
