Hayley Williams Regrets Not Listening To Old Rockers’ Advice

During a recent appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hayley Williams admitted she should have listened to the advice of older rock stars about headbanging.

After showing a t-shirt with her X-rays from the chiropractor, the Paramore singer said:

“For the first ten years of our career, we were always the youngest band out, and the older dudes were always like, ‘Oh, you’re going to regret headbanging like that.’ And we were like, ‘Nah, you’re just really old.’ And so obviously, I continued to headbang and give myself whiplash for a very long time.”

Recalling how she noticed the problem with her neck, Hayley went on to explain:

“And during the break that we took, which was… We needed it so bad, and we really wanted to take a break just to kind of be home and be kind of normal. But I woke up one morning. I, like, couldn’t look to my left, and I thought, ‘It’s time to pay the piper.'”

When Fallon asked if there was something wrong with her neck, she noted:

“I know a lot about neck bones at this point. My cervical vertebrae, C5 and 6, were like eroding, and I had what’s called military neck. I had headbanged the curvature out of my neck. So it just became a huge part of my life.”

Again, the host wanted to learn whether her neck bones came back, and Williams replied by saying:

“Well, I’m in, like, serious P.T. all the time. Like, on tour, I’m, like… I’m trying to get swole so that my neck can handle the headbands.”

The vocalist continued her words by revealing that she would keep headbanging as she couldn’t even think about giving it up. After a performance at the New Yorker Festival on October 6 in New York City, the next Paramore show is scheduled for November 8 in Auckland, New Zealand, kicking off a tour in New Zealand and Australia to wrap up the year.
