David Crosby Shares The Truth About His Relationship With Drew Barrymore

Speaking to The Howard Stern Show, David Crosby opened up about the relationship between him and the Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore when she was 14 years old.

Drew Barrymore is widely known as an actress first appearing on the screen with the movie ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial‘ when she was only ten years old. She continued his career appearing on various successful films such as ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ ‘Poison Ivy,’ ‘Batman Forever,’ and ‘Donnie Darko.’ Barrymore also has several awards including a Golden Globe, receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2004. As she announced recently on March 11, 2021, Barrymore took a hiatus from acting for an undetermined time period.

Apart from her successful career in the film industry, Barrymore is also known to have a problematized childhood. She was emancipated from her mother at the age of 14 and was at the focus of the media because of her nightlife and constant partying. Drew was placed in rehab when she was only 13 years old and spent 18 months there, and after a suicide attempt, she went back to rehab. She then lived with David Crosby and his wife for a time period, even going to the tours with him and his bandmates.

Following Drew Barrymore’s appearance on The Howard Stern Show, David Crosby has also appeared as a guest for the show. During the interview, Crosby talked about the time he spent with Barrymore. He said that they knew her because they were also in recovery at that time and he was totally sober. According to him, the facility she was in was run by a friend of Crosby’s and the facility had to kick her out as her insurance was running out. Crosby then said she stayed with them for a while, they took her to the school and tried to be a good influence. David then added he thinks she is now a responsible human being after that time period.

Crosby said during the interview that:

“Here’s what happened… We knew her because we were in recovery at that time, we were going to meetings probably three times a week, and I totally got sober. She was in a facility that was run by a friend of ours, and they said, ‘Oh, shit, her insurance is going to run out, we’re going to have to kick her out, and she’s not ready, she needs a safe place to go and it can’t be with her parents.’ And she came stayed with us for a while.

We took her to school in the morning and tried to be a good influence. I think we were kind and loving, and it felt good to do. You try to do stuff, and you’re not sure how it’s going to work out, I think that one worked out. I think she became a responsible human being and is a nice person.”

He then continued:

“And now I’m definitely a pothead hippie, but when I was trying to help her, I was completely straight and going to meetings and behaving myself, and I think we were a good influence.”

As you may know, Drew Barrymore has released an autobiography in 1990 titled ‘Little Girl Lost,’ describing that period of her life. Although it is unclear whether those two months with Crosby have positively influenced her mental health to the extent of healing her completely, it appears that she enjoyed her time to the fullest by Crosby’s side, and David has really tried to set a good example for her.
