Dan Reynolds Reflects On The Weeknd Beating Imagine Dragons’ Record

Imagine Dragons’ lead singer Dan Reynolds spoke about their hit song ‘Radioactive’ in an interview with Billboard and stated his opinion on The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ song, which is about to break their record.

‘Radioactive’ made its debut on US Billboard Hot 100 in 2012 and remained there for 87 weeks breaking Jason Mraz’s ‘I’m Yours’ record of 76 weeks. It was certified Diamond in the US and became one of the most selling singles of all time. The band later collaborated with Kendrick Lamar and released the song’s remix when they got nominated for two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance.

Even though the song broke the record on Billboard’s Hot 100, The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ is a week away from breaking Imagine Dragons’ record. Dan Reynolds doesn’t seem to have a problem with this. In fact, he stated that he is happy to pass the torch to The Weeknd and revealed that he thinks The Weeknd is a legend.

Here is how Reynolds spoke about The Weekend:

“I think it’s probably expected. At some point, something like that’s going to happen, and it’s not something that I’m tallying. And honestly, as I said, I love The Weeknd. So that’s just incredible, he’s a legend, he’s an icon. I think his music is the type of music that’s going to live on for a long time and do good things. So if there was ever someone to take the record, I think it’s good company.”

Reynolds said he loved creating and playing ‘Radioactive’ live, and the singer is very proud of the song. However, he is aware that everything comes to an end, and even though it is going to drop off the list, he is happy about the things its success brought to them and will be grateful for it.
