Courteney Cox Reflects On Appearing In Bruce Springsteen’s Music Video

Actress Courteney Cox recently joined The Howard Stern Show for an interview during which she talked about her appearance on the music video for a Bruce Springsteen song.

In 1984, Bruce Springsteen released his album ‘Born In The U.S.A.’ Written and performed by Springsteen, the song ‘Dancing In The Dark’ was released as the album’s first single. Following the release, the single became a huge hit and made the album the best-selling record of Springsteen’s music career.

The music video for ‘Dancing In The Dark’ was shot on June 28 and 29, 1984. It was a performance video in which Springsteen does not play guitar. Instead, he invites the 20-year-old Courteney Cox to dance along with him on the stage. In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Cox recalled her audition for the music video.

Speaking to Stern about the music video of ‘Dancing In The Dark,’ Cox admitted that she felt like she was at the wrong place during the audition. According to the actress, she believed she couldn’t dance, and when director Brian De Palma asked her to, it took her by surprise. As a result, Cox got the job because they wanted a fan who would act surprised.

Following that, Courtney Cox said she loves the song ‘Dancing In The Dark,’ but she feels pretty embarrassed. The actress talked about her dance moves in the video and admitted her dancing was horrible in it. She added that she’s usually a pretty good dancer, but the anxiety must have affected her groove.

During the conversation, Courteney Cox said the following:

“I thought I was in the wrong place. I was like, ‘I don’t know what they’re doing, but I can’t even bend my leg. This is it.’ I went into Brian De Palma’s office. He put on the music and said, ‘Well, you dance.’

I thought, ‘Right now? Here? In front of you? Just the two of us?’ I think that’s why I got it because I was like, ‘Okay!’ I think that’s what they wanted, a fan that just couldn’t believe it.

Saying Springsteen is incredible, Cox continued revealing her thoughts on ‘Dancing In The Dark’:

“I love that song. I get a little embarrassed because I do feel like when I watch the video when I see it. I mean, God. Did you see my dance? It was pathetic. I’m not a bad dancer, but that was horrible. I was so nervous.”
