Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor joined SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk for an interview on August 30, during which he argued that one of Metallica‘s songs is his generation’s ‘Stairway To Heaven.’

Corey Taylor is known for being an avid fan of Metallica. When he was young, he would try to tape Metallica’s songs when they came on the radio. Considering his appreciation of the band’s music, Taylor was inevitably influenced by the band. Besides, according to a previous interview, the singer even wanted Metallica to rule the world.

During his career with Slipknot, Taylor had a chance to share the same stage with his favorite band. In 2011, they headlined the Sonisphere Festival and Rock In Rio with Iron Maiden and Metallica and joined the metal heroes as their opening act for six WorldWired Tour dates in 2019.

As a solo musician, Taylor also contributed to Metallica’s charity tribute album ‘The Metallica Blacklist.’ Released in September 2021, the album featured the singer’s cover of ‘Holier Than Thou’ from Metallica’s 1991 self-titled classic, commonly known as ‘The Black Album.’

Speaking to Eddie Trunk in a recent Trunk Nation episode, Corey Taylor remembered when he first listened to Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ from ‘The Black Album.’ He described the song as his generation’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’ because of its uniqueness. The singer then said he looked for heavy songs after the album’s release, and ‘Holier Than Thou’ was among them.

Corey Taylor said the following about ‘Enter Sandman’:

“We were losing our minds on this song. People have to realize that this was before it became our generation’s ‘Stairway To Heaven.’ We’d never heard anything like it. We were just blown away. And then the album came out, and I was, like, ‘Okay. It sounds great. But where’s the heavy stuff?’ Some songs definitely came close, like ‘Holier Than Thou,’ which that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to cover that when they asked me to be a part of ‘The Metallica Blacklist.'”
