Billie Joe Armstrong Explains Why He Thought Green Day Fans Might Throw Bottles At Him
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong talked about the first time when he played ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’ on the stage during an appearance on Words + Music Audible.
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) is the second single of their fifth studio album Nimrod, and it is one of the most unique songs they have ever released. Traditionally, they are playing this song in the end of their shows.
In the conversation, Billie recalled the time when he decided to sing this song live during a concert even before it came out, and he thought that people are going to throw bottles at him.
While Billie was saying that he had to drink a bottle of beer to encourage himself before getting up the stage, he was also impressed to see that everybody was enjoying the song.
Here is what Billie Joe Armstrong said:
“I remember the first time I ever sang it live. I thought people were gonna throw bottles at me because the single was gonna come out.
“And so right at the end of our set, I remember going backstage. I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna do it.’ And I grabbed a beer and I chugged it.
And then I went out with my guitar and I played it, and it got an amazing response.”
